I Samuel 9:1-2
There was a man of Benjamin whose name was Kish the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of power. And he had a choice and handsome son whose name was Saul. There was not a more handsome person than he among the children of Israel. From his shoulders upward he was taller than any of the people.
I. Two Kings with Different Outcomes.
Why did Saul fail as Israel’s king while David, who appeared to be weaker, succeeded?
II. Both Received Counsel from Godly Men.
Saul never really understood the nature of what God had called him to do.
Samuel 10:22 Therefore they enquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the STUFF. KJV
Be careful not to let your successes bring you to a place that now you feel like you’re the only one God can use
David, on the other hand, seized opportunities to grow
God always rewards reachers.
III. Both Faced Great Challenges.
You can not continue to blame the circumstances in your life for your life
IV. Both Had the Choice to Change and Grow.
Our ability to change and grow makes all the difference in the world to our potential for growth and excellence
David’s interaction with Nathan is representative of his attitude during his life. He was never afraid to admit his shortcomings, ask for God’s forgiveness and blessing, and improve himself
