Isaiah 1:2-9
Listen, O heavens! Pay attention, earth! This is what the Lord says: “The children I raised and cared for have rebelled against me. Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its master’s care— but Israel doesn’t know its master. My people don’t recognize my care for them.” Oh, what a sinful nation they are— loaded down with a burden of guilt. They are evil people, corrupt children who have rejected the Lord. They have despised the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him. Why do you continue to invite punishment? Must you rebel forever? Your head is injured, and your heart is sick. You are battered from head to foot— covered with bruises, welts, and infected wounds— without any soothing ointments or bandages. Your country lies in ruins, and your towns are burned. Foreigners plunder your fields before your eyes and destroy everything they see. Beautiful Jerusalem stands abandoned like a watchman’s shelter in a vineyard, like a lean-to in a cucumber field after the harvest, like a helpless city under siege. If the Lord of Heaven’s Armies had not spared a few of us, we would have been wiped out like Sodom, destroyed like Gomorrah.
Isaiah 1:19
If you are willing and obedient, You will eat the best of the land;
I. When We Do What God Has Said We Have Every Right To Expect What God Has Promised.
In the days of Isaiah the people of God were watching their culture crumble
•Religion teaches that all suffer to be made perfect.
•The Gospel teaches that ONE suffered for all to be made perfect
HE only honors the sacrifices HE calls for
Isaiah 1:19 (NASB) “If you CONSENT and OBEY, You will eat the best of the land;
II. Two Things Required.
Consent – AVAH – to desire, to put your heart into it.
To God motives are more important than actions
Obey – SHAMA –- HEAR!
The ultimate manifestation of faith is obedience
The ultimate intent of faith is to make God’s truth our reality.
Therefore obedience to God conforms our life to God’s design.
Through obedience to God’s voice God’s truth become our reality.
A man / woman under authority become a man / woman of authority.
III. Take Advantage Of Every Opportunity To Do Good To All People.
Reward – MISTHOS = the rewards which God bestows, or will bestow, upon good deeds and endeavors.
When we’ve done our best to obey we have every right to expect NOTHING BUT THE BEST
Blessings for Obedience Deuteronomy 28:1-13 (NLT)
