“This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. This I command you, that you love one another.
John 15:15 (NASB) “No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing;
BUT I HAVE CALLED YOU FRIENDS,
for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
God’s wants to expand our lives till they become large
enough to contain His calling upon our lives.
I. God’s Desires Are Not Realized Just Because They Are God’s Desires
God desires your friendship but that doesn’t mean He’ll get it
The invitation is to whoever – but the qualifier is believes.
That invitation is to all but not realized by all
God offers the invitation but He does not predetermine the answer
II. Levels of Relationship
God loves all the same, but not all have the same relationship with HIM!
He loved all people equally, but not all people had equal access to Him
Our response to His invitation determines our access
A friend is one who is attached to another by affection
Zechariah 2:8 (ESV) 8 For thus said the Lord of hosts,….he who touches you touches the apple of his eye
III. There Are Costs To Friendship And There Are Benefits!
As a Friend of God I am devoted to HIS cause
My friendship with God is proven by the affection I offer you, the affection I offer you is received and returned by HIM
